Many mothers have fond memories of the hours they spent in their childhoods practicing somersaults and cartwheels, maybe even learning back handsprings and back hip circles in the gym or on the playground.
Boys too, of course, love to run, jump, roll, climb and tumble! For these reasons and more, private gymnastics programs and community recreation centers have always attracted large numbers of children who love to move, raised by parents who recognize the value of early agility training. But as boys' gymnastics has become a dying sport and competitive girls programs have betrayed the very children they serve, a new brand of early childhood activity has been born... Ninja Warrior!
Along with obstacle course training that satisfies the physical impulses of kids and stimulates the intellectual curiosity of developing minds, the evolving field of cognitive science is offering new insights into how little nervous systems connect the minds, bodies and emotions of developing children to turn them into happy, healthy, and active adolescents. The combination has created a new science of education known as embodied cognition, which we refer to in our Flip & Twist curriculum as 'whole child agility.'
